Can’t We All Get Along — The Congo & Rwanda
Threatening the security and peace of the EAC & the entire region
Tuesday, 12 April 2022
By: TB Obwoge
Rwanda just had several memorial services for the remembrance of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi (Kwibuka28). The month of April 2022 was filled with special events and memorial services held in the country.
A somber time indeed for everyone as some 600,000 to 1 million minority Tutsi, some allies in the Hutu and Twa tribes were murdered. The killing lasted over a period of 100 days in Rwanda.

Above the lighter tan land mass to the left of the large white land areas is the Republic of Congo, the larger white mass of land is the Democratic Republic of Congo. The smaller tan land mass to the right of the white land mass is Rwanda.
Fast forward The Democratic Republic of the Congo applies to be added into the East African BLOC. This BLOC is much like the West African Union in West Africa called ‘The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS; also known as CEDEAO in French)’. The East African counter part is The East African Community (EAC) often called the BLOC.
The countries in the EAC are; Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan. Already there are United Nations peace keeping troops in South Sudan and the DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo.
NOTE: There is a Democratic Republic of Congo & Republic of Congo. I used ‘The Congo’ at one time the two countries were one. For focus points the DRC is large, with 3 times zones. Below is a map to show you the locations of the 2 countries as well as where Rwanda sits.
